2009 Archival Education and Research  Institute (AERI)
University of California, Los Angeles
July 6-11, 2009

The first annual AERI was hosted on the UCLA campus from July 6-11, 2009. Institute activities included mentoring sessions for both doctoral students and faculty and teaching staff, methodology workshops, curriculum development seminars, a poster session, research presentations, guest speakers, and field trips. Further information about the program can be found in the
schedule.

Participants had ample opportunities throughout the week to engage in extended informal discussions outside planned activities.  As with future AERI, the 2009 Institute hosted at UCLA will draw upon local institutional and research expertise and experiences, especially those relating to moving image, sound and other media; ethnic, Indigenous, diasporic and other community-based initiatives; conservation and preservation practices; and digital recordkeeping and curatorship.

Incoming and continuing doctoral students, recently graduated doctoral students, and faculty undertaking research and teaching activities from any U.S. or non-U.S. institution attended.
Students and faculty are encouraged to attend every year. The upcoming AERI will by hosted by the University of Michigan (2010) and Simmons College (2011).  Please visit the AERI Insitutes for more information.
