The first annual AERI was hosted on the UCLA campus from July 6-11, 2009. The objective of AERI is to foster a global community of archival researchers and educators. Planned activities for the 2009 Institute included: research presentations, mentoring sessions for both doctoral students and faculty, methodology workshops, curriculum development seminars, a poster session, guest speakers, and field trips.  Incoming and continuing doctoral students, recently graduated doctoral students, and faculty undertaking research and teaching activities from any U.S. or non-U.S. institution attended.
